with the ps3 and the wii releasing soon, i thought this posting was relevant to the worm community [o.k. maybe just worm 5 and ravi @ drivetime.]. thus the cross-post:

What's on your Top 5 video games list? Submitted by mileena. » Read more on Vox

[updated and enchanced from the one on vox:

sheesh...i only get to pick 5? ok my list will be most hours logged and will only include game consoles.

space invaders (atari: the sickness begins...thank you brian laughlin. that kid was also really good at asteroids.)

mario bros (nes: could have went with zelda or metroid too)

nhl hockey (sega: breakfast, shmreakfast. look at the score, for christ's sake. it's only the second period and i'm up 12 to 2. breakfasts come and go, but hartford "the whale" they only beat vancouver once, maybe twice in a lifetime.)

golden eye (n64: college = drinking + 4 player death match)

madden (ps2: the only think that irks me about it is that novice worm 1 can beat the pro's pro worm 5 and i, in a game 'cause we can't cooperate with a lick. ever.)]

5. Original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater - If you were a skateboarder when this came it, it blew your mind. I remember the day that we stole the demo disc for it from one of those Playstation magazines and seriously played it til we could no longer take it. I'm pretty sure its the only game that I have ever pre-ordered.

4. Gran Turismo Series (PS2) - The indy car racing in GT3 A-spec was amazing. Actually the whole game was, but the indy racing was on another level. I haven't played GT4 as much as I probably should but the day it came out (whoops, I guess I pre-ordered this one too) I dropped over $200 at Best Buy on the game and a steering wheel. Man I've gotta play that again soon.

3. Goldeneye (N64) - No need to explain this one. Everyone knows.

2. Super Mario World (SNES) - Super Nintendo + Super Mario World = Best x-mas present ever. Thanks Grandma Pat and Grandpa Lyman. Yoshi!

1. Legend of Zelda, A Link to the Past (SNES) - Spent endless summer days sitting inside playing this as a child when I should have been playing outside. Funny thing is, I don't regret it one bit and would totally be cool with my child(hopefully not anytime soon) someday doing the same thing. My bestest game ever.

Honorable mentions - Resident Evil 4, Mario Kart, Grand Theft Auto Series, Sunset Riders...

Old School Top Five
The PS1 was the latest console to appear that I've played regularly, so this list will not contain anything newish.

Tony Hawk (any from 1-4; PS1&2): I could go for some right now, it's that good

Half-Life (PC): Team Fortress Classic revolutionized online gaming for me and my friends

Twisted Metal (PS1): this one occupied later drunken college years with the Sink & Co.

NHL94 (SNES): another 920 favorite; we got so pissed at how slow this game was that I was commanded to get NHL96 by the roommates. After the first demolishing of the computer 39-6, we decided maybe slower and more difficult would be more realistic.

Tecmo Super Dodge Ball (NES): A personal favorite, mostly because I guarantee I can kick your ass at it. I'm serious, no one plays this game better than me.

My honorable mentions are mostly games I've played solo, but would always play again; the ones above were always a social thing:
Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey (PS1 or PC), GTA3 (PC), Street Fighter II (SNES), Zelda (NES), Bionic Commando (NES), Goldeneye (N64), NBA Jam (N64)--this one replaced Goldeneye for us eventually, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (SNES), Top Gun (NES), Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES)

I have to say on the original NES I loved Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario 3, and Metroid. They were all amazing. I played and beat Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 as well, both of which were also lots of fun. I have high hopes for the Wii, but I doubt I will end up buying a new console since I tend to just play computer games now.

Wow, this is rough.. Hmmm.

Grand Theft Auto Specifically, the 3D ones (GTA 3, Vice City, etc). Saints Row counts too because it feels like a GTA game. I love spending hours just driving around and exploring.

Goldeneye is rad. Since it was developed by RARE and they're now owned by Microsoft, I'm hoping it ends up on Xbox Live Arcade someday.

Super Mario Bros is the game that got me into video games. The definitive killer app.

Gran Turismo set the bar for what racing games could do. Amazing stuff.

Super Metroid. There was just something about it. I love the throwbacks to the original Metroid, and it looked and played great.

Runners up: Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker, Sim City 2000, Mario Kart, and the Sly Cooper series.

Glad to see that Mario Kart got some props from someone else!!! I have to go with 6 as I can't eliminate one!

I agree with Jason...Super Mario Bros. for SNES was great!!!

6. Mike Tyson's Punch-Out (Too bad he became a freak of nature and they won't be releasing any new Punch-Out Games....can you imagine it with the Wii????)
5. Up,UP,Down,Down,Left,Right,Left,Right,B,A
.....'nuff said.
4.Halo 2 - I know it wasn't the first of it's kind with Bond being the original, great 1st person shooter, but honestly any game that can make people fail out of college is worthy of being on the list.
3.Super Mario Bros./Mario 3
2.Mortal Kombat - the word FATALITY took on a whole new meaning!
1. I just mentioned to my roommates as we turned the game on yesterday that this game is 10 years old!...and that we own both a PS2 ($200-$300 system) and a XBOX360 ($500), yet we still barely touch them compared to the 64 and Mario Kart! The sweetest multi-player game ever!

Honorable Mention: Killer Instinct, old NHL games (the ones where you could do a wrap-around the goal and score anytime.), Tecmo-Bowls, Street Fighter, old Final Fantasies.
